POSTPONED TO BE RE-SCHEDULED !!!

The San Antonio Post is having a half-day tour (originally scheduled for March 20 but postponed because of heavy rains/flooding in the Ranch area), at the Bamberger Ranch Preserve in Johnston City (about 60 miles from San Antonio). New date for tour pending.

The event is now open to Post members and friends and is a "pay-in-advance" event.

The maximum for the tour is 40 so order your tickets ASAP.

TOUR INFO

The Bamberger Ranch Preserve is a 5,500 acre ranch described as the largest habitat restoration project on private land in Texas. The Ranch Preserve received the Leopold Conservation Award for Texas as well as many other conservation awards and recognition.

You will see the results of 37 years of habitat restoration and projects which demonstrate principles of good stewardship on the 3.5 hour guided tour . You may also see dinosaur tracks, fossil beds, a herd of endangered Scimitar-horned Oryx and the "Chiroptorium" which is a man made bat cave designed to hold a million Mexican Free-tailed bats. You'll walk the nature trail and then enjoy Madrone Lake as you watch "The Rain Machine".

Transportation during the tour is on the "Bluebonnet", an open air trailer with a shade bonnet, so dress for the weather; and don't forget a hat!

After the tour is complete, you may want to join with others from the group for lunch in Blanco or maybe bring your own picnic lunch to eat later on the ranch.

In addition, three (3) Professional Development Hour (PDH) credits will be available for tour participants.

DIRECTIONS

Click HERE for a detailed map to the ranch.  It's recommended that you use this map because GPS and map services such as Google tend to direct people to the ranch's back (locked) gate.

Please be at the Historical Marker, which is just inside the front gate of the ranch (see linked map) NLT 9:00 am. There will be a parking sign showing where to park your cars.  Use the privy (bathroom) across from the parking area before getting on the tour.

As you drive on Country Road 203 (a.k.a. Miller Creek Loop), please drive carefully because of the cattle from neighboring properties.  Blanco County is a "free-range county", meaning ranchers are not required to fence in their livestock.  Should anyone hit or injure a cow, they would be responsible to that rancher to make restitution.  So while driving to/from the ranch, sit back and enjoy a slow ride through the beautiful countryside.

After the tour, you will be returned to your vehicles at the parking area.

CANCELLATION POLICY

You may cancel your ticket(s) up until Sunday, Mar 14.  After that all sales are final and only substitutions will be allowed.

If you can cancel by the deadline, you will receive a refund for your ticket(s).

For cancellations, send an email to branch@same-satx.org
